What Is SBRT?
Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is a highly precise form of external-beam radiation treatment that attacks the target tumor or organ in one to five treatments. The daily dose is usually larger than that delivered by 3-D CRT or IMRT. The larger fraction sizes have higher biologic effectiveness on some cancers. Continuous imaging is necessary to ensure precise accuracy of this treatment, in some cases down to less than a millimeter. Our Varian TrueBeam® linear accelerator allows delivery of radiation therapy with a very high dose rate so that the treatment can be completed in a very short period of time, usually less than 30 minutes per session. Since the treatment can be delivered in five sessions or less, this may be a good option for you even if you live in other parts of California. SpaceOAR Hydrogel Placement:
Patients eligible for SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy) for Prostate Cancer can now access this new procedure being performed at OneDayRT. SpaceOAR increases the space between the prostate and the rectum thereby reducing the dose of radiation received by the rectum. This is another technological aid for performing Short Course Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer.
