For Patients

Consultation

Once you have been referred to Dr. Kini or have chosen us yourself, you will receive an appointment for a consultation. We will collect your records from your referring doctor’s office. We encourage you to bring as many records and CDs of your imaging studies (CT scan/MRI etc) as possible. Dr. Kini will examine you and go over the details of your condition. A plan of care will be developed. Additional studies and consultations may be requested at this time. We will communicate with your doctors and review any external electronic medical records as needed. You will then receive an appointment for the next visit.

Simulation

Once the appropriate studies and workup are completed, you will undergo a treatment planning simulation. An individualized body-mold or a mask may be generated for each patient. That is typically followed by a CT scan performed in our office. Images from this CT scan are then electronically imported into a computer based treatment planning system. An individualized radiation therapy treatment plan is then generated for each patient.

Treatment

The next step is the actual treatment. You will receive a series of appointments (or one to five for SBRT). You will receive your treatments during these appointments every day or every other day. Your appointments will typically be at the same time each day and will last about 15 minutes.

Your Safety

Radiation therapy has been proven to be a safe and effective way to treat cancer for more than 100 years. While there are continual improvements to treatment delivery systems and the therapies themselves, the idea of radiation concerns most, if not all, patients. That’s why every member of Dr. Kini’s team is committed to the absolute safety of each patient who undergoes cancer radiation treatment at our facilities.

Our Commitment to Your Safety

Our commitment to safety means that we triple-check the physics involved in any prescribed treatment, evaluate our machines daily and immerse ourselves in safety and quality measures for both existing and new treatment technologies. We hold ourselves to a higher level of safety that often goes beyond industry standards to give our patients the best possible treatments and peace of mind.

Medical Physics

Dr. Vijay Kini is proud to have some of the nation’s leading medical physicists working at our centers in Orange County. Our medical physicists ensure that all of our advanced technologies work properly, reliably and safely. In addition to maintaining the safety of our equipment, our expert medical physicists work closely with our team of radiation therapy experts to make sure that every treatment is custom-tailored and safe to meet the needs of every patient.
